Pittsburgh Performs

By fulfilling its mission to offer quality and variety to Pittsburgh audiences, Chamber Music Pittsburgh is venturing outside the traditional concert hall to take the music to the places where people already are in the community. The Pittsburgh Performs series seeks to showcase the multi-faceted musical talents that the Steel City has to offer by presenting affordable pay-what-you-wish performances featuring local musicians in non-traditional venues around town.
Pay what you wish! ($15 recommended). Tickets are required for all Pittsburgh Performs events. Purchase tickets ahead of time by phone or online. Any remaining general admission tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis at the door on the night of the event.
Past Events in This Series:
Pittsburgh Performs: Sirens & Queens by Anqwenique
Join Chamber Music Pittsburgh and Boom Concepts at East Liberty's Hotel Indigo in the Wallace’s Whiskey Room + Kitchen for our Pittsburgh Performs concert Sirens & Queens, a project of vocalist Anqwenique. Soprano, Anqwenique Kinsel presents contemporary works by Black Women composers, highlighting and elevating their accomplishments in the classical music field. The project Sirens & Queens aim to explore non-sacred, obscure works that are not performed often in order to expose, educate, entertain and delight audiences in stories and musical experiences. In order to present a more accurate, contemporary narrative of the Black experience in a classical music context. Tackling issues of diversity in the field by creating and curating content that relates to marginalized communities. This project began through Anqwenique's search for classical music content that reflected her cultural experiences as a Black Woman. Ultimately leading her to find works that are captivating, musically proficient, and technically complex, although do not always appear in standard classical repertoire. Anqwenique believes that part of combatting racism in creative spaces is to challenge how arts based institutions, place value on works by artists of color. The concert begins at 7PM. Full cash bar and full restaurant menu available.

Pittsburgh Performs: Music of John Cage for Prepared Piano Performed by Amy Williams
It is a rare opportunity to hear John Cage’s groundbreaking solo prepared piano work, the Sonatas and Interludes, performed live. Lasting just over an hour, there are dozens of screws, bolts, pieces of rubber, coins, strips of plastic, that are inserted into the strings of the piano to create breathtakingly beautiful sounds that are reminiscent of percussion instruments from around the world. Chamber Music Pittsburgh invites you to hear Amy Williams perform surrounded by potential musical instruments (aka “junk”) at Construction Junction to further intensify the experience. The piece is an emotional journey—through the “white" emotions (the heroic, the erotic, the mirthful and the wondrous) and the “black” emotions (fear, anger, disgust, and sorrow) of Ancient Hindu aesthetics, all leading towards tranquility.
