“A band of world-class soloists […] in which egos dissolve and players think, breathe, and play as one.” — Time Out New York
The Israeli Chamber Project, a collective of American and Israeli chamber superstars including Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster David McCarroll, concludes our season in its CMP debut. With a soulful program that includes one of Beethoven’s earliest chamber works, the ensemble explores the meaning of Israeli-Mediterranean identity through Paul Ben-Haim’s masterful piano trio and concludes with Olivier Messiaen’s monumental Quartet for the End of Time. Written while Messiaen was a prisoner of war during World War II, this remarkable and rarely performed work incorporates layered voices, including evocative birdsong, to produce a mystical, profound meditation.
