Montgomery Fellowship Quartet
Chamber Music Pittsburgh was founded by Ruth Mitchell Montgomery, who passed away at age 101 in June 2018. Ruth spearheaded the 1961 founding of CMP (formerly the Pittsburgh Chamber Music Society) with the assistance of a Heinz Endowment grant. The Ruth M. Montgomery Fellowship was established in May 2000 to honor the contributions she made during her 30-year tenure as Founding Director of Chamber Music Pittsburgh.
Each year, a local high school-aged ensemble is chosen to receive the Ruth M. Montgomery Fellowship. The Ruth M. Montgomery String Fellowship Ensemble is selected through an audition process administered and judged by the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble receives a year’s coaching in chamber music, complimentary tickets to all CMP concerts, performance opportunities, and occasional master classes with visiting chamber music ensembles.
